MAVIR, the Hungarian Transmission System Operator, contracted Navitasoft as one of its key IT partners to deliver a modern market and balancing management system, supporting the operation of the liberalised electricity market and the secure balancing of the Hungarian power system.
The multi-year, phased agile IT programme resulted in the BOSs (Balance Operation System), a next-generation platform designed to replace a long-established legacy solution and to support evolving market, regulatory and operational requirements. Navitasoft played a significant role from the early phases of the programme and remained actively involved throughout its implementation.
Core Contribution and Responsibilities
Navitasoft delivered several critical functional components within the BOSs programme, including modules supporting ancillary service and control reserve management. These components covered long- and short-term capacity tendering processes, tender documentation handling, energy bidding and related market services essential for system balancing.
In addition to module delivery, Navitasoft also acted as a system integrator, supporting coordination and technical alignment between multiple vendors and system components participating in the BOSs programme. This role contributed to the reliable operation of the overall solution and the smooth cooperation between the involved parties.

The introduction of BOSs marked a significant step forward in the modernisation of Hungary’s electricity market systems. Compared to the previous platform, BOSs supports more automated processes, improved transparency and more efficient market operations, while enabling better adaptability to changing regulatory frameworks.
