A lifetime in the energy industry
From 2008 to 2023 - a lifetime in the energy industry

No doubt, our very own 2023 has had enough events to fill this page, but as we recently had the honor to celebrate our 15th anniversary, it is the perfect opportunity to take you further back for a moment, to the year 2008, to be precise. For this year’s recap we want to expand the scope and aim at the big Navitasoft picture that closely follows the major industry trends of the last 15 years.

2008: The beginning of an era

The late 2000s were a time when the iPhone was still a novel gadget, revolutionizing the way we communicate, and social media platforms like Facebook were just starting to gain traction. Back then, few people outside the energy industry knew what a net zero goal was, and even fewer thought that renewables would be actually booming in two decades time. It feels like it was yesterday, but actually going back 15 years in the energy industry feels like a lifetime.

It was the year 2008, where we answered to the call to innovation and dared to enter a then-still pretty conservative energy industry. With a bold vision in mind, we sensed a time brimming with potential, as the industry was experiencing a significant shift due to market liberalization. Back then, we focused on the burgeoning opportunities in Central and Eastern Europe. There, our initial years were dedicated to opening up operators to third-party access, a crucial step in liberalizing high-voltage and high-pressure grids and gas storages.

2010s: The rise of trading

The 2010s can be described as a period of rapid evolution and growth. We observed the rise of traders and the increasing importance of automation in data exchanges. This decade was characterized by two distinct phases: the early 2010s focused on ETRM system implementation, while the latter half saw an increased sophistication among traders. The rise of first-generation Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and the onset of algo-trading and cross-market optimization were enabled by better IT infrastructure and data availability. These milestones sharpened our commitment to staying ahead of these technological advancements.

2020s: A sustainable future ahead

The 2020s heralded a new era emphasizing decentralization, decarbonization, and democratization. This decade is pivotal for the energy sector, with the integration of renewable energy sources, the shift towards electric vehicles and heat pumps, and the inclusion of smaller players in the market and Navitasoft's role in this transformation has been significant. Our initiatives and solutions have been geared towards enabling efficient energy use and facilitating the integration of diverse energy sources into the grid.

A 2028 roadmap

Looking ahead, we continue to witness and contribute to further changes in the energy sector. Distributed System Operators (DSOs) are at the forefront of this transformation, with a significant focus on digitalization and innovative market designs. Our vision for the future involves our innovative concept of the Energy Market of Things, which aims to integrate assets on low- and mid-voltage grids. This integration will not only enhance grid stability and efficiency but also democratize the energy market by providing smaller asset owners with access and opportunities, all of which will also make the operation of VPPs way more efficient.

Navitasoft in 2023

Of course, no recap of our journey is complete without a look at the most recent year’s highlights. For us, the year 2023 stands out as a particularly landmark year, as it was coined by numerous strategic partnerships and significant industry events. Key among these was our introduction into the smartEn association and our presence at Stadtwerke 2023, E-World, The Smarter E, and Enlit, all of which have been instrumental in strengthening our position in the market and our standing within the industry. In addition to that, new collaborations with CET and Audax, along with ongoing projects with established clients like Elering, Conexus, and Ukrenergo, have underscored our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.

Thank YOU!

Last but not least, we’re filled with immense gratitude towards each and every one of our employees and partners. You made our journey such a success. With your commitment and innovative mindset, you have not only shaped our company but also significantly impacted the energy industry. From those who have been with us since our humble beginnings in 2008 to those who have joined us along the way, we want to thank each of you for your dedication and hard work.
