Three days at the trade fair in Essen
The ways of E-world 2022: Three days at the trade fair in Essen

After a two-year hiatus, E-world returned last week - with a vengeance. As you can see from the photos below we had an absolute blast, and we don’t just mean the Hungarian Wine Party on Tuesday, even though, as always, that was certainly one of the highlights. (Just ask anyone who stopped by our stand and sampled some of the fine wines on offer.) A few days have now passed since the event ended, but a few things will stay with us for a while yet, so we thought we would recap what we experienced and learned in Essen and share a few impressions.

Although we didn’t keep count, we must have heard the word ‘challenge’ at least a hundred times over the three days. In our conversations with players from all walks of the energy industry - utilities, traders, innovators, policymakers - the recurring theme was that the sector is going through some tough times, and everyone agreed that there is a lot of uncertainty over supply, regulation, and security. Many questions were raised during our talks as we and our visitors, partners, and friends discussed the current state of the energy industry and how we could make things get better. Because, ever the optimists, we believe that every single one of us can make a contribution to ensuring that things will get better. Also, whenever we face a challenge, we do our best to turn it into an opportunity.

Despite the period of upheaval the energy sector is experiencing, it is clear that making the most of the three Ds - decarbonization, decentralization, digitalization - will remain the central issue over the long haul. It is also evident by now that the energy transition must be diverse if we’re going to achieve our ambitious climate goals. There is no magic formula; the trick is to come up with solutions that not only support an increasingly clean power grid, but also guarantee that all the stakeholders benefit. At this year’s E-world, we had the chance to present such a solution: our very own Energy Market of Things (EMoT).

The trade fair provided the perfect opportunity to introduce our platform, which we have been working on tirelessly for months, to wider industry audiences. The response turned out to be nothing short of enthusiastic, and we look forward to getting many more distributed devices connected to power markets.

We do hope this year’s event was a success for you too and that you also had a reason to clink your glasses. Ours is no doubt a tough industry, but at the same time it’s full of exciting opportunities. By taking advantage of them, we can bring about change that makes people’s lives a great deal better. E-world 2023 can’t come soon enough - we’re already looking forward to seeing you again and discussing what all of us will have accomplished by then.
